Hunter Bernal - 2025 Mission Trip
Message from Hunter: "This September, I have the opportunity to return to Malawi, Africa, for a mission trip that has deeply impacted my heart and perspective. I’m writing to share what we’ve seen God do and invite you to consider partnering with me through prayer or support as we go again.
Last year, I traveled with a team from Sale Street Baptist Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana, in partnership with YouTurn Ministries. YouTurn focuses on water well repairs in the Malinga District, using each repair as an opening to share the gospel. We didn’t just fix wells—we preached the good news of Jesus to the surrounding communities and invested time discipling local churches and leaders.
One powerful moment came when we were doing door-to-door evangelism after repairing a well. We met a woman who didn’t speak the local language, Chichewa. As we tried to figure out how to communicate, a local Muslim tribal leader stepped forward and translated the gospel into her language so she could understand. That moment reminded me that God is at work in hearts everywhere, often in ways we don’t expect.
Since then, local believers in the Machinga District have taken ownership of the mission. When a follow-up team visited this past May, they found that three new churches had been planted and that evangelism was continuing without outside help—something that has been a long-term goal in this area.
